FIRST CONTACT WITH WREN SUSPENSION FORK DESIGNED FOR CONVENTIONAL MOUNTAIN BIKES

Wren Suspension is quite a well known brand amongst the fat bike riders but a lot less familiar with the other mountain biking disciplines. Like all other conventional mountain bikers, we would have missed this little gem of a brand if we did not have our first opportunity to hands-on with it. We made first contact with this fork when Yap Bicycle Compania started fitting them onto their Guerrilla Gravity mountain bikes. The fork looked really masculine and our first spin on a bike fitted with this fork got us interested. Here's a first look at Wren Suspension mountain bike forks.

WHO ARE THEY?

Founded by Kevin Wren, Wren suspension is the brand name of Wren Sports, a startup company which made a name for themselves with fat bike suspension forks that gave the Rockshox Bluto a run for the money. In fact, we learned that they performed better than the Bluto in a certain review. (Scroll down for the video shootout) Currently, their product range include suspension forks, seat posts, handle bars and floor pumps. Alright, we feel that the main products are their forks, the rest of the product range are simply playing support role to beef up the brand name and online store. This said, we are more interested in how the fork performs.

WHAT'S IN THE FORK?

Being a startup brand, Wren Suspension is a passionate lot that totally believe in their products and are always ready to share their design philosophy. We were quite surprised that we missed them at Taipei Cycle. But nonetheless, we finally got hold of one of their forks and would be doing some runs with it on different bikes.

Currently, their latest product is their Inverted Suspension Fork, which comes with a choice of 100mm or 110mm Hub, in either 110mm or 150mm travel. Similar to the design of a motorcycle fork, the keyed stanchions prevent stanchion twist and keep it running true. The inverted design puts the 36mm stanchions on the bottom reducing the lower mass of the fork making it more responsive to the terrain. The beefed up crown and 43mm uppers provide the strength and torsional rigidity. Wren Suspension Forks have fully adjustable rebound and compression on the oil side. In addition, there is a rider-accessible dial to make compression adjustments on the fly including lockout.

The Wren Suspension Inverted Fork have the following unique features:

  • TwinAir
  • Keyed Stanchions
  • Carbon Bash Guards

GETTING THEM

We liked the look of the Wren Suspension fork when it was fitted onto our test bike. With 43 mm upper arms, we guess that's the least it could do for the bike. Somehow, we never knew that it could look that MASCULINE! Watch out for our full review soon.

Should you be too excited and wish to check these forks out first, visit Yap Bicycle Compania at 8 Jln Batu, #01-03,Singapore 431008 or call them at +65 9111 3130
