GETTING THE YOUNG TO LOVE CYCLING

Over 300 children took part in the Mighty Savers® Kids Ride, which proved to be a hit with the children and families. The rides saw some 92 children aged 2 – 5 years old cycle a distance of 100m with a parent, while another 106 children from the 5 – 9-year-old category had their fair share of fun, cycling for a duration of 20 minutes around the OCBC Arena.

The Mighty Savers® Family Ride for 5 – 9 years old saw 85 participants enjoy 20 minutes of cycling time as a family unit, while another 53 children aged 10 – 12 years old cycled for 30 minutes around the OCBC Speedway Championship track to wrap up the Mighty Savers® Kids Ride on a cool Saturday evening.

Eight year-old Julian Tay took part in the Mighty Savers Kids Ride with his friend and enjoyed the experience. He said, “I had a lot of fun cycling here with my friend today. I learnt to cycle when I was four and I like to cycle fast. I hope to come back next year and cycle with my friend because he is so much faster and makes me want to cycle faster.”

Earlier in the year, a group of volunteers from Millennium Hotels & Resorts and OCBC Cycle 2016 participants took time off to give back to the community by teaching 20 under-privileged children how to cycle at the Teach A Child To Cycle Programme, presented by Millennium Hotels & Resorts.

Madam Tan, 38, felt that it is good that her 10-year-old son, Rakuma, learnt to cycle through OCBC Bank’s Teach A Child To Cycle Programme. “Through this training programme, my son managed to learn how to cycle and in turn, I picked up cycling too. We now cycle together often at a field and a park near our home. It is great exercise for him and we have a chance to bond over an activity.”

A total of 20 bicycles were also donated to OCBC Cycle’s Teach A Child To Cycle Programme. The beneficiaries are kids who come from the Dsylexia Association of Singapore, The Business Times Budding Artists Fund, Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities and Yu Neng Primary School.
