EVENT: HIGH MORALE AT THE

SHARING AND NETWORKING SESSION

URBAN WHEELS CHALLENGE 2015

The announcement of the coming Urban Wheels Challenge 2015 had created quite a stir with the Singapore cycling community! And with good reasons. Slated to be the first big scale urban MTB event to be held at Singapore Sports Hub and garnering support from more sponsors and partners than the usual urban biking events, it is indeed something to look forward to.

Beside the weekend of action that we are all looking forward to, Urban Wheels Challenge 2015 seems to resonate off vibes other than that of races and competitions – it is giving the local biking community another reason to come together. And from Bikezilla's view point, this is all good!

THE URBAN WHEELS CHALLENGE SHARING AND NETWORKING SESSION

Before the action begins, Mediacorp OOH Media – the organizer of this urban race event had 2 sharing sessions (co-organized with Singapore Sports Hub Library) targeted at the ardent supporters of the sport as well as the general public. The first session was held on 18 September 2015 at the Sports Hub Library and attended by the local biking community's retailers and opinion leaders. During the session, Mr Henry Goh – Head of Mediacorp OOH Media delivered an honest yet optimistic message to the guests.

Henry pointed out that the current biking scene in Singapore, although thriving, has a need for more recognition and bigger events. There is a limitation to the sport's accessibility to resources, for example: land use outside of the usual venues for events. And a mass media approach for the promotion of the sport would boost cycling as a sport and a lifestyle further. While the event must be attractive to the existing members of the cycling community, it should also be a platform to attract new entrants to the sport. And when better events attract more/bigger sponsors, the frequency and magnitude of the events would grow. And Urban Wheels Challenge 2015 intend to achieve these objectives.

And that is why Urban Wheel Challenge 2015 aims:

  • to be the largest urban circuit with most number of obstacles in an audience friendly and accessible venue
  • to reach out to the youth and the growing cycling community
  • to offer value add alternative marketing vehicle for advertisers targeting outdoor sports market
  • to create an opportunity for advertisers to re-connect, engage, foster relationship with existing and new audiences beyond usage of traditional media.
  • inspire and motivate the general public to embrace a healthier and better life through the impactful experience of the sport.

KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING!

With a walk-through of the race course and individuals spending time with one another on some catch-ups and sharing of future plans, the session came to an end with a sweet uplifting aftertaste. We now look forward to the next sharing session on 4th October 2015 where speakers Coach Wilson Low and Coach Nicholas Zhang would share with their experience on sports/cycling preparation and avoiding of injuries. (Ed: All are welcome!) And then it's the big RACE DAY!

We will be back with more updates soon.
