Nongsa Cycle 2015 is an inaugural bike race event jointly organised by Ideas Room Consulting and Ace Sports Group and in partnership with resort operator, Batam View Beach Resort and fast ferry operator, BatamFast. It is scheduled on 9 May 2015, Saturday in the idyllic north eastern region of Batam called Nongsa. The region is a popular holiday getaway for Singaporeans and the region expatriates community which boasts of resorts, beaches, marina and golf courses, among others.

Riding on the growing popularity of cycling in Singapore and the region, the aim for Nongsa Cycle is to develop it into an annual event in the region race calendar where cyclists from Singapore will engage in a friendly competition against the local riders and more importantly, to have fun together. The Chief of Police in the Riau province (KEPRI), Jendral Bapak Arman Depari is the guest-of-honour who will flag off the cyclists. The Batam Tourism has also given their firm endorsement too. “Batam View is both excited and honoured to be able to play a key role in realising an exciting bike race that has every potential to develop into an important race event in Nongsa where cyclists from Singapore and the region can congregate. This is our first big step forward”, says Mr Anddy Fong, General Manager of Batam View Beach Resort. 

The adrenalin driven 12-km loop in Nongsa which stretches a 1 km long climb with 70 metres of elevation, which can push hardcore cyclists to their limits. It is an ideal route lush with greenery on either side, away from the hustle-bustle city of Singapore, which allows regular cyclists to do a hard race. Upon completion, a celebration party awaits all and thus the event’s tagline – “Race Hard; Party Harder”. While the race can be competitive, there is also a non-competitive category for leisure cyclists too. There are three categories, namely (1) King of The Hill – 60 km, (2) Road Blazer – 36 km and (3) Wannabe (fun & leisure) – 24 km respectively. Participants can choose to compete as an individual or in team of four to six cyclists. All cyclists will be given specially designed event cycling jersey. Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the top eight podium finishers in the individual category and top three in the team category. In addition, there will be a green jersey award for the best lap time.

It is mandatory for cyclists to stay a minimum of one night at Batam View Beach Resort as the highlight of the event is where a post-ride dinner will be hosted for all the cyclists and their supporters. There is also a two-night stay package for cyclists to choose from. All cyclists will be called upon to receive their well-earned medals and certificates on stage. There will be a lucky draw contest too. Cyclists will get a comprehensive race pack comprising a specially designed “Nongsa Cycle 2015” jersey and other merchandises from sponsors. The evening will see live performance by a band group to keep the cyclists and their supporters entertained that stretches all night long.

Ideas Room Consulting Pte Ltd is an event management company which has recently launched its maiden run event called “Run For Light 2015” at Gardens By The Bay attracting some 3,000 runners. Ace Sports Group is the regional apparel distributor for Quickspeed brand. Quickspeed has collaborated with some well-known cycle events in Singapore as their official apparel. In this inaugural event, Quickspeed is the official event apparel.
