SPOTLIGHT: CRANKWORX: THE OTHER SIDE OF BIKING

THE OTHER SIDE OF BIKING

Even in the world of mountain biking, biking itself means different things to different folks. It can be a social experience of riding the trails to simply enjoy the sight and sound. Or it can be a sport to challenge an individual's speed, technical skills, endurance and bravery. It can be a spandex-clad race or a muddy expedition. It can be a climb and/or a descend. And it can be a horizontally planted or a vertical gravity-defying ride. Whatever mountain biking is to an individual, it deserves to be celebrated.

Crankworx is a celebration of the more extreme aspects of mountain biking, centering on dirtjumping, slopestyle, downhill and North Shore-style riding. While there are many small niches in Asia that focus on dirtjumps and slopestyle, the main focus in Asia with regards to extreme mountain biking is still downhill racing. Crankworx offer a different perspective of extreme mountain biking and it has set the bar through the professional riders that graced the event every year. It's time to be inspired by these guys all over again. And who knows, slopestyle and dirtjump would then garner as much attention as downhill …
