A BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF BOREALIS FAT BIKES

While the brand name may strike a resounding chord with fat bike fans, the uninitiated may not know Borealis well. So here's a brief introduction on them. Born from Colorado USA, the guys from Borealis are riders who love the great American outdoors, particularly around Colorado Front Range, Moab and Alaska. And with this love for the various extreme terrain came bikes that are suitable for snow, sand, tarmac and dirt. Borealis Fat Bikes had since been a leading name in fat bike frames and components. Currently, they have 2 fat bike models – the Echo and the Yampa. The Yampa is designed for speed and speced with a rigid fork. while the Echo is more popular with the Singaporean market with its performance-oriented design and the matching with the Rockshox Bluto suspension fork. And this is the model which Gravity Racing brought in for their fat bike fans.

THE ECHO

"The first carbon fat bike frame ever to be designed specifically around the Bluto fork"

Named after Echo Canyon in Dinosaur National Monument up in the northwestern of Colorado, the echo is the first performance-oriented, full carbon frame designed around the brand new RockShox Bluto fat bike suspension fork. The Echo has good lateral stiffness and vertical compliance. The frame's geometry is also optimized for the 100mm of travel that the Bluto fork offers and this make the Echo a bike that can tackle the most technical and extreme of terrain.. While many bike company will claim that their Fat Bike frames can match suspension fork well, it is hard to beat the Borealis Echo, which was designed after the designers saw the Rockshox Bluto and decided that they would make a frame to match this fork!

(Ed: Frame designers could work both ways when it comes to matching frame with fork. They could design a frame based on a current model of fork or to design the frame first then followed by talking to the fork manufacturer for a specially designed fork. Either way is possible. For matching with long-standing fork models, frame makers would design a frame based on the chosen fork's characteristics, geometry and off-sets. But for a fork model as new as the Bluto, Borealis Fat Bike was really fast to act. Kudos to them!)
