RIDING FROM A HELI-ACCESSED EMTB CAMP HIGH UP IN THE ROMANIAN ALPINE
Introducing “Legends of Gugu” — a high-alpine, heli-accessed eMTB camp hosted by We Ride Romania, coached by MTB legend Richard Gasperotti, and designed for those who want more than just a ride. It all began on a quiet summer evening at Hotel Montis in Muntele Mic ski resort. (August 2025)
LEGENDS OF GUGU

Riders from different places gathered for the first briefing, the program laid out in detail, the excitement building with every word. As the sun set, we clipped in for a short ride through the resort — the perfect chance to test the eMTBs, shake off the travel and set the tone for what was to come.

DAY 2 AT THE CAMP

Day two reminded us that in the mountains, nature always has the final word.
The helicopter was grounded by weather, and our mission turned into a true test of grit: loading gear and pedaling all the way up to the private chalet. The climb was long, heavy with baggage, but the reward waiting at the top was priceless — warm food, a remote mountain hideout and coaching sessions with Richard Gasperotti that turned effort into progress.
GREAT DAY FOR A RIDE!

Saturday felt like waking up in paradise.
The sky was clear, the heli blades spinning just outside the chalet, ready to lift us straight onto Țarcu Peak. What followed was a perfect blend of flow, technical descents and steep climbs — terrain that challenged and taught at the same time. We reached Poiana Mărului lake, recharged with traditional food at El Camino and lifted once again into the high ridge for the premiere of the Coffee Lady trail. A demanding line across sharp crests, where the ride itself became legend — and at the finish, the Coffee Lady herself was waiting with fresh coffee. That night, steak on the grill sealed the day in true mountain style.

GUGU PEAK DAY

Sunday gave us yet another blessing: clear skies and permission to fly to the mythical Gugu Peak.
At the summit, we paused — not for rest, but for stories. Tales of the Dacians, of their worship of Zalmoxis and of treasures hidden before the Roman conquest. A moment of tribute to the ancestors, before we pointed the bikes downhill into a six-hour, 35 km journey across the mountains. By the time we rolled into Poiana Mărului, batteries were drained, bodies exhausted, but spirits unbroken. A military truck was waiting, the final ride of the camp — carrying us home, carrying the memories of four unforgettable days.

THE GUGU PEAK EXPERIENCE WILL BE UNFORGETABLE

Riding here is more than just sport — it’s discovery. Each trail carries the weight of history, every ridge whispers old legends and every climb is answered with views that remind you of how small we are in the wilderness. The Carpathians remain raw and untamed, and that’s what makes this camp so unique: an exclusive chance to connect with nature, to share the mountain spirit with a few kindred souls and to write your own story in a land where myths and adventure still walk side by side.
The ‘Legends of Gugu’ were not just ridden, but lived.
