It's BACK! Urban Wheels 2018 – The City Challenge 2. This comes as a breath of fresh air for us as we do not have many big scale, good venue street riding event in Singapore. Frankly, we are looking forward to this good start for 2018. Urban Wheels 2018 happens on 20th and 21st January 2018. Check out Bikezilla's regular updates on this website and our Facebook pages. For now, let us give you the low-down of this event first.
CELEBRATING STREET BIKING
Urban Wheels 2018, an urban obstacle cycling competiton, is an event organised by Mediacorp’s OOH Media. The event brand name is now onto its third instalment, a good sign of a healthy tradition in the development in our opinion.
Building up from 2015’s inaugural challenge at Singapore Sports Hub, this year’s cycling event throwbacks to the basics of technical street/mountain biking, engaging and introducing to the public about the sport. The event also aim to encourage first-timers to contribute to the vibrancy for this sport by experiencing the thrills and adrenaline rush of an urban gravity race in the heart of the city.

Our co-organiser *SCAPE Co. Ltd is a non-profit organisation with its mission and vision rooted in support of youth, talent and leadership development. The organisation aims to facilitate youth-oriented programmes and support within various communities of youth interest in Singapore. The youth of today will be inspired and empowered to DREAM IT AND LIVE IT at *SCAPE!
CATEGORIES AND FEES
Less BS and more rides? Sure. Find the categories that you fit in best and start thinking how you could beat the competition now.
There's 7 different categories for you to create your #memoryoftheyear or #bikefails with:
- Junior Under 12 (7 – 12 years old)
- Junior (13 – 16 years old)
- Youth (17 – 21 years old)
- Female Open (18 years old & above)
- Rookie (21 years old & above)*
- Open (22 – 35 years old)
- Masters (36 years old & above)
* Rookie category is suited for first-timers and those new to the sport. Participants who take part in this category can expect a simpler route.
RACE SYNOPSIS
- An Individual Time Trial race consisting of the rider finding the fastest racing line.
- Riders will be required to overcome man-made obstacles being set up along the race line
- Riders are let off the start ramp at 30 sec or 1 min intervals.
- In order to win, every physical, technical and mental skill is required.
- The organizer reserves the right to cancel category if the participating riders amount to less than 5 riders.
Note: Participants below 18 years old must seek parental or guardian consent before entering the competition.

EARLY BIRD SPECIAL
As usual, the early bird gets some extras perks. Early Bird get 10% OFF registration fees when you register between 13th – 31st December 2017! Registration ends 19th January 2018. To save you time from punching the numbers out on your calculator app, we got the numbers below.

URBAN WHEELS VILLAGE
Apart from the main event – the race, there will be an Urban Wheels Village during both days of the event. You will find an array of fringe activities for both participants and spectators. There will be scheduled appearances from local radio DJs and artistes, SCAPE Youth Talents, along with stage game segments and on-the-ground contests! For visitors who wish to get in on the action, join us at the mini obstacle tryout section. Young riders are not forgotten too. There is a free Strider tryout for 2 to 5 years old riders.
COMPLEMENTARY CLINICS AND WORKSHOPS
The Urban Wheels 2018 mood starts early. Before the event weekend, both particpants and those who are interested to know more about mountain or street riding would be treated to some cool activities. On the menu are: Cycling Clinic, "Gear Up For Your Downhill Race" Talk, Sports Injury Prevention Workshop, Basic Bike Maintenance Workshop by Shimano and "How to Shred with GoPro" Workshop happening on Saturday, 6th, 13th and 17th January 2018! Time: 1pm – 3pm

SPORTS INJURY PREVENTION WORKSHOP
Time: 3.30pm – 5.30pm

13th January 2018
BASIC BIKE MAINTENANCE WORKSHOP BY SHIMANO
2 Sessions: 11.00 am and 5.00 pm
Venue: Shimano Cycling World – 6 Stadium Walk, #01-02, Singapore 397698 (Right next to the Singapore Sports Museum and Sports Hub Visitor Centre)
Shimano Cycling World’s Basic Bike Maintenance Workshop is a fundamental 90-minutes class that covers the following topics:
- How to use quick release skewers
- Adjusting brakes
- Removing front and rear wheels
- Repairing a puncture/ changing a tube and tire
- Bike cleaning
- Routine checks before riding and safety tips

THE BIKEZILLA MASS RIDE
In Bikezilla tradition, we bring you a lead-up event that's suitable for participants (racers) as well as supporters (non-racers) alike – The Bikezilla Mass Ride. This round, we will be doing our first Street Night Mass Ride. More details on the Mass Ride soon, but mean time mark your calendar for 5th January 2018 evening. Expect some cool stuff like super original limited print runs Bikezilla Mass Ride T-shirts, crazy but simple games and lots of laughter. Limited participant slots and t-shirts only.
