PRODUCT: SPECIAL PROJECT ON A VERTIX VELO

USING THE VERTIX VELO ON A FULL FACE HELMET

FOR RUNNING COMMENTARY VIDEO VOICE-OVER AND TRAINING AID

We are familiar with the VERTIX Velo being a communication headset specially designed for cyclists riding in groups (both road and mountain biking). But with some creativity, Coach Wilson Low and Mr Philip Tan from VERTIX (Xtreme DSP Global Pte Ltd) came out with an alternate yet useful solution for producing videos with voice-over. With a set of VERTIX Velo attached to his full face helmet (less the earphones) and a receiver set to his POV camera, Wilson was able to give running commentaries as he rode. And that was what he did at the recent Urban Wheels Challenge practice session – riding a bike-train with Bikezilla riders while providing a first-person commentary of the race route ride-through!

HOW IT'S DONE!

A VERTIX Velo headset (less ear piece as he is only aiming to provide commentary for his video) was set up with his full face helmet, in the same way as he would on a normal trail ride. Another VERTIX Velo receiver was then attached to his POV camera harness and connected to the audio input of the camera. The receivers are then paired so that Wilson's commentary would go directly into the camera as it records the footage of his ride.

Setting up the POV camera

From the diagram provided by VERTIX (Xtreme DSP Global Pte Ltd), the coach or POV video rider would wear 2 sets of VERTIX Velo receivers. One receiver is used for the normal communication between riders, as well as provide the microphone function for the voice-over POV video. The second receiver, with the use of a VERTIX Velo special filter cable, would be used to receive audio signal from the rider via Bluetooth. And the end result is – crystal clear communication intercom between riders as well as a clean clear voice-over for the video.

MORE THAN ONE WAY TO USE VERTIX VELO

The VERTIX Velo is now given a new role – it can be converted into an add-on voice-over microphone for POV (Point of View) videos.

This translate to:

  • Better quality productions for training and information purposes – no more shouting above the wind noise to be heard
  • More creative possibilities with POV video productions – voice-over are not limited to only training or informational use, the possibilities are endless
  • Put more fun into POV videos

The VERTIX Velo special filter cable is currently not for sale yet. But we are sure they would consider producing it for use with all the POV cameras in the market. With this additional application, the usefulness of the VERTIX Velo just leveled up! Definitely looking forward to it.
