NEWS: THE SINGAPORE YETI TRIBE HAS A NEW CAVE

YETI BUKIT TIMAH OFFICIALLY OPENS AT HINDHEDE ROAD

Last weekend we watched the UCI World Championships live at YetiBT’s new space. To "spice" up the launch of their new location, they laid out a satay grill for some snacks while the race raged on.

RIGHT WHERE THEY WANT TO BE – FINALLY

YetiBT has been around for the past three years. It has previously hidden inside Bukit Timah Shopping Center, a big old shopping center with many tuition and maid agencies. So when the time came to move, Yeti Bukit Timah crossed the street to the entry road to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve’s Visitor Carpark – Hindhede Road.

(Ed: We asked Reza why they moved. He said the appearance of the Red Squirrel Learning Centre opposite the old location, was a very clear sign. He said “Better don’t mix up your animals”)

Bukit Timah MTB Trail means many things when you talk to the guys at YetiBT. It is their home trail and Singapore’s oldest MTB trail. As such, YetiBT sets its focus around good ol' Bukit Timah MTB Trail!

Why is Bukit Timah MTB Trail so special to the folks at YetiBT? Bukit Timah MTB Trail is a multi-feature trail situated at the heart of Singapore’s mountain biking scene. Within it’s 6.6km loop, there are rooty switchbacks, big berms, rock gardens, drops, short but fun descents, all of which give the local riding community a wide spectrum of trail experience. For riders who  wish to explore oversea trails, Bukit Timah MTB Trail would be a trail that provides good preparatory training.

YETI CYCLES

Reza started YetiBT to represent Yeti Cycles in Singapore. Although the company has never been very big, its commitment to racing, sponsoring some of the most successful racers in MTB history has given the brand its cult status.

In 2015, Yeti launched its 30th Anniversary edition SB6C – a stunner in our opinion and occasionally spotted around our trails with their flashy bright yellow and turquoise colourways. For 2018, Yeti has another limited edition in the pipeline – 125 units replica bike of Richie Rude’s racing SB6! Richie Rude and Jared Graves (then racing for Yeti Cycles) won the first three Enduro World Series from 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Yeti’s current design identity is defined by its in-house developed Switch Infinity suspension system. This has the main pivot point on sliding rails built on Fox Kashima sliders. The rail first appeared on Yetis on their 303DH bikes. There is no air or oil, just greased sliders. This unique, and successful suspension system places Yeti bikes in a special position. Yeti bikes are reviewed as good all rounder machines by many publications.

Yeti Cycles are not the cheapest frames in town. However in 2016, they started selling an entry level edition, now called the Carbon Series. These are available as complete bikes only, starting at under SGD$7,000, and feature the same frame geometry, but with more affordable carbon fiber layups and components. Moving up the product hierarchy, the "ultimate" Yeti frames are now called the TURQ series, with advanced (and not too cheap) carbon fiber, being 300 grams lighter than the Carbon Series.

COMPONENTS AND OTHER GOODIES AT YetiBT

In addition to Yeti Cycles, YetiBT is the local agent for Chromag, Nobl wheels, WeareOne rims – all Whistler Canada MTB icons. You can also find the plant-based, aka "green" Whistler Performance oils and lubes in this cave. In addition, there's OneUp Components and ION apparel from Germany.

For a shop that started with one guy, mistaken a few times as a pirated DVD shop, YetiBT is now at the corner of our trails ready to continue serving the community. From trail side bike repair to full servicing, food and nutrition, bike storage for easy trail rides, mountain bike rentals, skills lessons, Yeti BT is the location (cave) you might want to get familiar with.
