EVENT: PRE-EVENT CLINICS FOR URBAN WHEELS: THE CITY CHALLENGE 2016

EVENT: PRE-EVENT CLINICS FOR

URBAN WHEELS: THE CITY CHALLENGE 2016

We have seen cycle events that are adrenaline pumped, and those that catered for leisurely family recreation. And once in a while, we would come across those that have multiple categories that allow for the experts to pitch their skills against their peers of the same skill level, and yet make room for those who are new to the sport to have their opportunities to play more active roles in race events. Urban Wheels is one such race.

Since its inauguration in 2015, it has given cyclists of different skill levels opportunities to enjoy the fun and challenge of an urban race that is set in a backdrop grander than the typical neighborhood races that novices and rookies are usually resigned to. While the Urban Wheels Challenge series may be quickly written off by some as just another urban race that give novices and rookies a chance to race, it should be quickly corrected to say that they do have a more complete and unique view on promoting cycling and giving encouragement to the newer riders to join races. Before the main event weekend where the big actions would be played out, participants (especially the less experienced racers) are given a chance to get some fair riding and racing tips from Urban Wheels' appointed trainers. Read on for the details of the Pre-Event Clinics.

THE DETAILS

Dates: 13th; 20th & 27th of August 2016

Time: 10am to 1pm

Venue: *SCAPE

Target Rider Group: From Junior (below 12 years old) to Rookie Category bikers

CLINIC OBJECTIVES

The clinic aims to prepare participants for the race in terms of skills. And in doing so, it would equip the riders with some valuable race technics that would get them to clear obstacles in the most optimal way at their current skill level. These skills would eventually form the foundation for these riders and would be valuable at all riding occasions.

To describe briefly, participants would be given training on

– Cycling down stairs with confidence

– Correct (and efficient) technique in carrying a bicycle down the stairs when riding down confidently is compromised

– Executing turns after bombing down a flight of stairs

– Correct technique in carrying a bicycle at (sharp) turns be it to save time or when there are inadequate skills needed to ride through the sharp turns efficiently

NOTE TO PARTICIPANTS

Participants are:

– required to bring their own bicycle

– required to put on safety gears as mentioned in the event ruls & regulations

– to fill up indemnity form provided by Mediacorp OOH Media

– to affix temporary race tag during the clinic

FAIR PLAY FOR RACE

To exercise fair play to all racers at Urban Wheels the Urban Challenge 2016, Clinic Participants will not be practicing within the stairway and the final flight of stairs that would be part of the route during the race. So rest assured that the participants for the clinics are only given skill training but no special privileges.

EVENT DAY SAFETY

For safety of the less experienced rider categories (Junior below 12 years and Rookie), trainers will be stationed at the 2 escalators, stairway and final flight of stairs during their runs.
