TOUGH LUBE FOR THE BAD WEATHER 

 

 

 

We had the opportunity to try out a newly available lubricant recently. Fus-On may not be a household brand to most cyclists but for the small group who had the opportunity to sample it with their bikes, they had given it good reviews. Bikezilla put one of our bikes to the test and we were happy with its performance. Read on for the details.

 

 

FUS-ON PENETRATING LUBRICANT

The story started with Mr David Hoo stumbling upon this lubricant from Thailand and decide to try it out on his bikes – a Giant Reign and a Devinci Wilson. He was very impressed with what he discovered and decide to distribute them in Singapore. 

The Fus-On Penetrating Lubricant has the capabilities of:

  • Penetrating rust and displacing moisture
  • Reducing metal-to-metal friction and thus the wearing off of moving parts
  • Allowing for longer maintenance  intervals
  • Reducing noise and temperature
  • Being 20 times longer-lasting than similar products

(The lubricant manufacturer also claims that the product is suitable for machinery, and electrical products)

 

 

OBSERVATIONS

We cleaned up a Transition Patrol and applied the lubricant to the drive-train. During the application, we observed the "correct method" of applying lubricant to the chain – spraying the lubricant in a controlled manner away from the rotors, and spinning the crank so as the chain get evenly lubricated. We then whip off the excessive lubricant.

We noticed that the aerosol spray can give the lubricant a bubbly but even application. Care was taken (with the use of newspaper as partition) not to let the misty spray come into contact with the brake rotors.

The lubricant falls into the category of Wet Lube and it is neither too thick nor too thin. Just the right viscosity based on visual observation as we applied them on the chain.

We also noticed that after a ride, the chain was not as dirty as when we used other brands of lubricants. And washing the bike (without deliberately spraying bicycle shampoo onto the chain) did not strip the chain of the lubricating properties.

The drive train performed superbly during the test period too.
