EVENT: HIGHLIGHTS OF

URBAN WHEELS 2015

THE BIG INAUGURATION HIT BY

MEDIACORP OOH MEDIA FOR THE CYCLING COMMUNITY!

The cycling community was pleasantly surprised when they learnt of the coming of an all-new cycling event – Urban Wheels. And to add more toppings to this sweet treat, this brainchild from Media Corp OOH Media (Out-of-Home Media) will bring along involvement from local artistes and something for everyone! Choosing the Singapore Sports Hub as their first venue also injected some much-needed freshness to the local cycling scene. Now, tell us this is not the ONE event bikers and soon-to-be bikers want to look forward to from this year on! Read on for the program highlights.

GETTING IT ALL TOGETHER!

Urban Wheels started off with the aim to be an urban race event with programs that would attract the community-at-large. But at its core is the urban race itself. The inaugural event is catered for both the experienced gravity riders to pit their skills amongst their peers and also for new riders to experience the adrenaline rush of an urban gravity race at a venue that many looked forward to racing in.

At the helm of the event's race course design and race management is long-time local race organizer 1 Oak Service. As one of the event partners with Mediacorp OOH Media for this event, 1 Oak Service is no stranger to organizing urban gravity races and we are sure Urban Wheels will feature another awesome race course.

Singapore Cycling Federation also came in as a supporting partner for this event. They will be providing the public with some tips and guides on cycling and fitness.

An event of this scale could only be made possible with good sponsors and Urban Wheels seems to be making good headway with the private sector sponsors at press time. There will be products booths with attractive offers and opportunities for product demos. And the prizes from sponsors Shimano, GoPro and Vertix are definitely attractive to any cyclist.

DREAMING IT BIG

To start their inaugural event with a bang, Urban Wheels aimed to be the biggest Urban Gravity Bike race in Singapore. For 2015, their target is 200 racers, a whole big bunch of supporters, spectators & sponsors, a long race course and a cool list of entertaining programs. (Ed: The race course currently stands at 300m, we would hope to see it double up the following year.)

And if there is one big highlight for the racers, it is the opportunity to bomb down the Grand Stairs at Stadium Roar in front of a cheering crowd. That alone is a priceless experience. With the addition of a 3 foot jump-off feature erected specially for this race at the top of the Grand Stairs, it's a race not to be missed.

BEST TRICK

In addition to the main event, there will be a Best Trick side event before the prize presentation. The Top 5 participants of each category will be invited to show off their flair and skills in an untimed run. MediaCorp artistes and invited guest (names to be announced later) will form the panel of judges.

MINI PUMP TRACK

A mini pump track would be built specially for this event. Riding a pump track is one of the best way to improve on basic cycling skills and these skills are invaluable for all types of cycling disciplines. The mini pump track would be open to public and invited guest with professional coaches to help provide some on-the-spot guidance for those who need it. To cater to the juniors and seniors at the event, bicycles for riding the mini pump track would be available for them to try out the course.

SHARING SESSION AT SPORTS HUB LIBRARY

Prior to this event, Urban Wheels will also be organizing a Sharing Session, co-organized with Sports Hub Library (Supported by Singapore Cycling Federation, Singapore Sports Institute, Singapore National Olympic Council) on 4 October (Sunday) from 2.00 – 4.00 pm. Guest speakers for the session are NROC certified coaches Mr Wilson Low and Nicholas Zhang. Public who are keen to find out more about cycling can register and join in. Admission is free. We will announce the registration details soon.
